Goals
By the end of this topic, you should be able to:
- Find a probability by counting, then as an area under a curve
- Use the normal table in both directions
- Get the same areas from a spreadsheet
- Say what makes a result weird, which is the idea behind every test in the course
Reading
- Chapter 6.
NoteThe book and our slides
- The book: reads areas from the unit normal table, in body and tail columns. Our slides: use the table too, and the spreadsheet’s
NORM.DIST, which always gives the area to the left. The table rounds, so answers can differ in the second decimal.
